Dear Alumni,

The University of Macau (UM) is a leading and the only public comprehensive university in Macao. In recent years, it has gained increasing international recognition for its excellent teaching, research, and community service. Currently there are more than 9,300 students at UM, of whom 6,000 are undergraduate students. UM adopts governance and management systems in line with international standards and practices, with English as the main medium of instruction. In recent years, UM has stepped up efforts in globally recruiting outstanding academic staff. It now ranks among the top in Asia in terms of the diversity of the faculty body. With the new campus 20 times larger than the old one becoming operational, UM has implemented Asia’s largest residential college system. It also adopts a new ‘4-in-1’ model of education, which consists of discipline-specific education, general education, research and internship education, and community and peer education, in an effort to nurture exemplary, well-rounded graduates for society. In the future, UM will constantly enhance its teaching and research, increase its degree of internationalisation, and launch more academic programmes, in order to achieve the goal of becoming a high-quality first-class university with regional characteristics.
